Engineering Methealth's Future

The skyline of Kleine Kuppe is set to gain a new landmark with the upcoming construction of the Methealth Namibia Administrators Head Office. This ambitious project is not only a strategic move for Methealth to own its premises, but also a showcase of innovative design and structural engineering prowess, from our Emcon structural engineering department.

As the appointed Civil and Structural Engineers, our team at EMCON Consulting Group is meticulously crafting the foundational framework that will bring Methealth's vision to life. This project, currently in its tender process with site handover anticipated for early October 2025, is a testament to thoughtful design that harmonises with the natural environment and supports a high-performance, collaborative workplace culture.

A Building of Purpose and Light
Methealth's design brief called for a building that is warm, welcoming, eco-friendly, and filled with natural light, promoting connectivity and representing its market-leading position. Our structural design is key to enabling these architectural aspirations.

Clever Structural Solutions
The chosen site, ERF-287 in Kleine Kuppe, presents its own unique characteristics, including a gradual 4-meter slope from its highest point in the North East corner down to the South West. This topography was not seen as a challenge but an opportunity. Our structural design intelligently incorporates a lower basement parking area, strategically introduced to leverage this existing slope, optimising space and minimising excavation complexities. The primary structural system is a robust concrete structure, encompassing:
  • Concrete Pad Foundations: Designed to provide a stable and secure base, essential given the local geotechnical conditions in the area.
  • Columns: Strategically placed within a carefully planned column grid layout, ensuring the efficient accommodation of the parking levels and overall building load.
  • Retaining Walls: Crucial for managing the site's slope and supporting the integrated basement.
  • Beams and Suspended Concrete Slabs: These form the floors and ceilings, providing the expansive, open-plan workspaces Methealth envisions, while maintaining structural integrity.

Efficiency and Innovation in Design
A key aspect of our approach was the design of normal conventional reinforced concrete flat slabs with minimal beams. This choice is driven by a commitment to cost-effectiveness and faster construction times, providing a significant advantage over more complex slab types like coffer or ribbed slabs without compromising strength. Furthermore, a durable steel roof structure has been designed. Notably, this design includes pre-emptive allowance for future solar installation, aligning with Methealth's objective for an eco-friendly building and showcasing a forward-thinking approach to sustainable infrastructure.

EMCON's Commitment to Excellence
This project underscores Emcon’s expertise in designing robust, efficient, and adaptable structures. By carefully considering geotechnical conditions, optimising spatial utilisation, and integrating future-proofing elements like solar readiness, we are proud to contribute to a building that will not only serve Methealth Namibia Administrators for years to come but also stand as a beacon of modern Namibian engineering.

We look forward to seeing this exciting project transition from the drawing board to reality, creating a new head office that truly embodies Methealth's values and vision.
